President – Crystal Pearce

Volunteer Development Officer

Local Government Federal Credit Union

Crystal started working at Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) in November 2004. She has been in multiple positions while at the Credit Union and took on the role of Volunteer Development Officer in January 2014. LGFCU has a group of nearly 550 volunteers across the state called the Advisory Council. She learned about WAVA at the 2014 NCAVA Conference and became part of the team that helped revive WAVA as an active NCAVA affiliate.

President – Elect – Teresa Nichols

Volunteer Experience Director

Girl Scouts-North Carolina Coastal Pines

Teresa is a Volunteer Experience Director for Girl Scouts-North Carolina Coastal Pines. With  more than 13 years of program and volunteer management experience in the non-profit and government sectors, Teresa currently designs and delivers volunteer trainings that improve the performance of volunteer programs for over 9,000 volunteers across North Carolina. Teresa is a graduate of Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics and is currently pursuing her Masters of Higher Education Degree in Adult Education and Integrated Technology.  

Vice President – Ashley Deans 

Resource Development Manager

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department

Ashley Deans is the Resource Development Manager for the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. In her position, she administers the Volunteer Services Program and works with the community to build partnerships and coordinate opportunities for individuals and groups to contribute time, talents, and resources to City of Raleigh parks, greenways, programs, and facilities. She graduated from King College, with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Marketing and Sport Management in 2011, and obtained her Masters of Business Administration from East Carolina University in 2013. Ashley is also a Certified Park and Recreation Professional and Certified Administrator of Volunteers in North Carolina.

Secretary – Mary Owens

Volunteer Services Coordinator

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department

Mary got her start managing volunteers as an intern with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2011. She worked with the refuge’s clubs/ RV volunteers, Alternative Spring Break Program, and a Citizen Science Program. After serving a year with AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps, she landed in Raleigh. Here she combined her love for parks and working with volunteers. As the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department’s Volunteer Services Coordinator she helps manage close to 14,000 volunteers who support the Department’s 220 parks and 120 miles of greenway trails.
